Coping skills are things that we use to "cope" with how we feel or what we are going through. These can be healthy (like talking to a friend) or unhealthy (like using drugs or alcohol). Having at least 5 healthy ones available to us can allow us to overcome the urge to use the unhealthy ones, but the important thing to know is that doing the healthy things isn't going to replace the unhealthy urge. It just helps us not use the unhealthy one and be able to manage what comes up for us when we aren't numbing out by doing something harmful. I hope that helps!! xoxo
