Worrying analysis: Russia still intends to seize Kiev
The US-based think tank Institute for the Study of War has published its latest assessment of the conflict in Ukraine.
The agency shared that it found that Russian forces had not given up on their goal of capturing Kiev, despite the Kremlin's claims that it would focus on eastern Ukraine.
Highlights from the organization's latest report are as follows:
THE CITY OF IRPIN IS UNDER UKRAINE CONTROL
Ukrainian armed forces recapture Irpin northwest of Kiev, and Ukrainian counterattacks around the capital could prevent Russian operations from encircling it
Russian forces slowed down
Russian forces have slowed down in northeastern Ukraine and have not conducted offensive operations against the cities of Chernihiv, Sumy or Kharkiv in the past 24 hours
Recruitment Efforts
Russia's recruiting efforts may not be enough for a while to prepare Russian troops for combat operations. Russia's number of trained reservists remains low, and it will take "months" for new recruits to be operational.
The Russian army has probably deployed most of its reserves to Ukraine. Unidentified units continue to be deployed, but authorities have observed a "significant reduction in traffic density from the depths of the Russian Federation (towards Ukraine)"
The Ukrainian side says that Russian forces are regrouping to resume major operations to seize the entire Donetsk and Luhansk regions
