In this video we have learned:
1) The percentage of steel should be a minimum of 0.8% of the Gross area of the section and a maximum of 6% of the Gross area, but the maximum area can be restricted to 4% of the Gross area so as to avoid congestion of reinforcement while concreting.

2) Minimum number of bars for the rectangular column is 4 and the Minimum bars for the circular column is 6.

3) Minimum Diameter of the longitudinal reinforcement is 12mm.

4) Minimum clear cover should be 40mm.

5) The minimum size of the RCC column as per IS 456: 2000 is 9″ x 9″, containing steel reinforcement of 4 bars of 12mm with stirrups of 8mm steel rings at a distance of 150mm center to center.
