Workers were hard at work over the past two weeks in order to meet demand at a chilli processing facility belonging to one of North China's largest distributors of chilli peppers in Zhaokang Town, on the southern end of Xiangfen County, Shanxi Province.
The facility, run by Shanxi Hongchangyuan Agricultural Trade Co, was filled with humongous red piles of chillies that were then prepared and bagged for shipping to buyers, as seen on Wednesday and the week before.
"Since 2000, we began to grow chili peppers in Zhaoxiong Village, Xiangfen County. We already have a mature model from planting to picking to drying and selling to all parts of the country," commented Zhang Keliang, general manager at Shanxi Hongchangyuan Agricultural Trade Co.
"Now we are not worried about sales, buyers from all over the country come to Shanxi to buy chili peppers," added Zhang.
According to Zhang, his company ships more than 1.5 million kilogrammes of chillies throughout the country every year.

SOT, Zhao Aijuan, Factory worker, (Mandarin): "I have been working here for more than 10 years and I can earn 50,000 to 60,000 yuan a year, which is about 200 yuan a day. When things are good, I should be able to earn more than 300 yuan per day. When I am not very busy, I usually earn about 150 yuan."
