DFAT ‘engaging’ with those still trying to escape Afghanistan

Defence Minister Peter Dutton says the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is “engaging” with those known to have worked for Australia who may still be trying to get out of Afghanistan.

“DFAT is engaging with these people, those that have been registered,” he told Sky News host Alan Jones.

“Again there were some people who were offered a seat or a way out through Kabul when it was open and decided not to take it for their own personal reasons.

“There are others that have made it to Pakistan, to the border and there are others that DFAT’s working with at the moment to try and make good their escape … or help them get to safety and evacuate them out.”
