How many times do you walk into the gym and see a lot of people, even "fit-looking" people, holding onto the treadmill, the stairclimber, the elliptical? Do you? STOP holding on! Don't be like everyone else and keep doing what is COMMON, conventional, and EASY. This is a disservice to your body. Doing what is common and easy is an obstacle to increasing performance and improving overall physical and mental well-being. Do what is UNCOMMON, unconventional, and HARD.

"Exercising" is not taking a walk in the park. Exercising is focusing on a task at hand. Exercising means to FOCUS ON YOU. Exercising makes heads turn. Exercising is expending energy. Exercising is sweating. Exercising is a skill we learn to do (or not to do). My book, The Fitness Mindset, especially Chapter 2, "The Flow of Exercising," speaks of the "how" to exercise better to increase functional performance and maximize results quicker. In the video I say to hold on to the machine if you have balance issues. If you have balance issues, what you should actually do is lower the speed and touch the side of the arm handles every so often to learn to balance. Going too slow might cause you to waver more and become more unbalanced. Walk at a speed when you feel in sync with your body's natural rhythm. Be safe.

I do 60-minute cardio sessions 2-4 days per week. I choose six machines or exercises (even squats) for 10 minutes each at a high-intensity steady-state. One treadmill at my gym inclines to 30%. I take advantage of it and max it out at 30%. My speed is 2mph. I literally have to walk on my toes. After 10 minutes my calves are pumped and I'm exhausted. And no, I do not hold on!
