‘The reality is’ if the numbers don’t come down ‘we’re never getting out of lockdown’

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller has spoken of his “goal” to get COVID-19 numbers down in the state, saying the reality is if the numbers don't lower "we're never getting out of this lockdown".

Commissioner Fuller said getting the numbers down can be achieved "by restricting the movement of people".

“The lockdown is focusing on the unnecessary movement of people," he told Sky News Australia.

“The balance between the economy and the health of the people of New South Wales has been a consistent issue and it’s a difficult issue to juggle.

"But the stronger powers, the bigger fines, if about trying to stop the unnecessary movement of people.

“The reality is, if we don’t get the numbers down, then we’re never getting out of lockdown”.
