One Day in March (Ad Infinitum) E♭m, Part IV: Melodic Explorations
Composed using an eight-chord progression in the form of
I → vi → iii → vii → iiº → V → iiº → I(+8), or
E♭m → C♭ → G♭ → D♭ → Fº → B♭m → Fº → E♭m, or
Tonic → Sub-Mediant → Mediant → Leading Tone →
Supertonic → Dominant → Supertonic → Tonic
This is part IV, Ad Infinium. Here I explore the basic melody and try some variations, searching for more emotional phrasing and tonic subtleties.
This further evolution of the original idea is still written and performed in the key signature of E♭ minor. I also use of Polychords, sudden changes in tempo and intensity of the base melody to create "moods" and "feels" in the melodic phrasing. I wanted to include some modulating chords and experience with key changes, but I got a bit carried away and did not have enough time (I like to keep the composition to about six minutes max).
It continues to rely heavily on hand interdependence, using both hands together and separately to create a more complex and sonically interesting melody.
The objective remains to demonstrate how all these elements (Polychords, sudden changes in tempo & intensity, etc.) can be used to impact a the composition, regardless of the complexity of the melody itself.
