This is an amazing Otis car elevator! This was originally a building for the Essex Motor Co. on Baum Blvd's "auto row," right across from the old Ford Model T factory, but was converted to offices in 1976. This however, is still here! Normally the stop switch is pad-locked shut in the off position, but at the time the padlock was un-done and the switch was in the on position! The automatic Westinghouse freight elevator here was out-of-service at the time, so that may have been why.
This has has manual Peelle doors for all floors, plus Headrick installed a power Courion door in the rear for the 5th floor dock within the last 10 years. This is variable speed, and has an epic motor!
Thanks for watching! My mission is to try and showcase some of the most unique and underrated elevators in the Pittsburgh area. Want to support that?
